Bush Campaign Office Ransacked

The Seattle Times: Local News: Bush's state headquarters for re-election burglarized

So, in Washington State, a Bush campaign office was burglarized, and the campaign workers are trying to take every opportunity to accuse the Democratic Party of being behind it.

Wasn't there just an article recently about how Karl Rove, while working on a campaign in Texas, secretely sponsored a low-blow attack on his own client so he could blame it on the other candidate? It worked, his candidate won.

In short, just because the Republicans say the Democrats did it, it doesn't mean the Republicans didn't do it themselves.

Maybe it was poor people. Republicans hate poor people too, and I hear there are more of them than ever.

You're thinking of the gubernatorial race between White and Clements. Clements' office was found to be "bugged" the day of, or maybe a day before, a televised debate between the two. Clements was not exactly known for being capable of saying popular things, but the story of the "bug" caused enough of a sensation as to avoid anything substantial.

Clements subsequently lost to Ann Richards in the next race probably due to an alienating statement of women and rape. Unfortunately for Clements, there was no level of spin that could be put on that one to save him.
