What the Republicans Could Do

There's a bunch of stuff they could do that could really mess things up if the media gives them a free pass:

  • Bush could send financial assistance to California now that they have a Republican in office, and spin it so that Schwarzenegger saved California in a way that only a Republican can
  • The administration could ride the Israel/Syria conflict and/or escalate the Iran conflict so that 2004's election becomes about a war drumbeat again
  • They could invent/produce a major WMD find
  • They could produce Saddam Hussein
  • They could produce Osama bin Laden (I bring both of these up implying the possibility they know exactly where they both are and are just waiting for good timing)

What else?

What reason would the Bush administration have for keeping S.H.'s and O.B.L.'s whereabouts a secret. I agree that they fuck with the media a lot, but why would they keep it a secret when they've come under so much fire for it?

Sure, you're right - it makes no sense. I guess where it aligns with what I truly believe is that if something like that did happen, I'm just not sure it would surprise me. This administration has done so many extreme things already. I mean, look at when he made the case for the war on Iraq. There's no question that was politically timed. If they'll actually time the war drumbeat for when it would be most advantageous for elections, then I can't imagine anything else being sacred. The thing is they actually make it make sense for themselves - since they know they only way they can put these policies in action is if they have a majority, then in their mind timing these things to affect the election is fair game since it's a matter of national security.

--Have you noticed that the power dynamic between them is chasmic, with the newly-minted governor and action star nearly idolized by the designated populist commander? He's an actor, Quincy, a man of a thousand faces.

"The administration could ride the Israel/Syria conflict and/or escalate the Iran conflict so that 2004's election becomes about a war drumbeat again."
tum-tum Chile tum-tum Argentina tum-tum El Salvadore tum-tum Nigeria tum-tum Liberia tum-tum Bali tum-tum Indonesia tum-tum Burma tum-tum Ivory Coast tum-tum Phillipines tum-tum Kashmir, India tum-tum cuba? You think they need to "ride" this pony-- it's broke halter and ran off from 'em.

The Administration needs to listen to those other drumbeats pounding, all the insurrection and rebellion in South America, Asia, and Africa. The inhumane and unjust rise of a police-state everywhere is the cause of the uprisings. What are we doing telling others how to live? Why do we tolerate them telling us how to live? I complain and try to exercise my rights but called trouble-maker, disloyal, stupid and crazy until I surrender.

Why are people forced to give up pieces of themselves, a fingerprint here and a blood test there and some urine or skin or hair? This detritus and excriment is all our unique property that must be protected and cherished. No, I don't mean save it up in jars, but we've got to restore the rights of privacy of body and mind or else we might as well be robots.

"They could invent/produce a major WMD find." #1--If they could, they would. That answer may be grounds for impeachment, if not here, maybe in an allied nation. #2--our CIA is trying...there have been little stories on AP about submarines from Syria with WMD and other such herrings that make the WMDs look like they are coming into the country, so the story never sticks for long.

"They could produce Saddam Hussein or Osama bin Laden." Could, but won't...too dangerous to let them live. As soon as they get a bead on them, they're toast, to tidy up the books.

Really, here is what's happening...we spent 87 billion unexpected monies this year on the war and the same is going to reconstruction. The Republicans don't have to do another darn thing to get what they want. It all came true--they crashed the social net and redistributed the nation's wealth to a minority of people who already had money. They took what piddling little bit we students and seniors and poor souls had paid into taxes for roads and schools and gave it to the spoiled sons and daughters of the mean old men who run this country.
