Most corrupt country
Which country is most corrupt?You know what I think is funny about this article? Well, a few days ago I found an article that ranked countries by how happy their citizens were. You know who the winner was? Nigeria. So, this study ranks which countries are most corrupt. Where did Nigeria rank? Second. What could that mean?
(I think it was Denmark that scored high in both studies.
Having spent time in West Africa, my guess would be
1) people are happy with less
2) society's structure isn't necessarily built so that government corruption directly effects daily lives of people
3) people put up with it
4) power does not have equal weight in a poor country as it does in a rich country. This is a long, long tangent for another entry.
A story from Ghana, which is a world away from Nigeria but has its own issues as every country in that general region.
I was walking across the beach with Michael, one of the boys of the family I lived with, and when we reached a certain point there was a guy to meet us to tell us we couldn't cross. Michael exchanged a number of heated words with him in Ga, the local dialect, and we ended up going around that section of the beach. I later asked Michael what happened. The guy felt that he "owned" that portion of beach (even tho' technically he didn't) and that we should pay to cross it. I said, "so why don't the police do something to stop people like him?" Michael replied, "Because he WAS police." Just doing what he wanted to do because he COULD do it. Michael shrugged it off. We just went around that part of the beach. Problem solved. :-)
The fact that Nigeria is a corrupt place and thats because it just gain democracy just within 5yrs and can not be compared with other 1st class countries even though they have every thing they need but still lack happiness.
So wats the point of having every thing and not happiness?
People in Nigeria have learnt to live by wat they have and even though some tend to earn their living though faking things like clothes and other worldly things, they are actually trying to survive at all cost cause the government have been in their positions to take care of them selves and families, and not the same people that they bribed b4 they gor into the position.I know that the on-going president is trying all his best to erase crime and corruption cause he's being there b4 and got into prison and i guess he has seen the up and down of the world and would not want another mistake done.
The fact that the country is rated happiest people on earth means they are contentious of wat they have! rich, middle class or poor.
