I read a lot of articles the last two days saying that the administration had no military designs on Syria. Then I read this.

But, I thought that Bush just vetoed Syrian plans. I started getting really nervous about this when I first heard about it. Granted, Bush shooting down Rumsfield could easily be a "good cop, bad cop" ploy to make Bush smell a little sweeter. My head hurts.

Bush SR. was not part of the neocons and was more part of the Powell crowd. George W. is more closely involved with the neocon crowd and sort of sits in between them and Powell. So I think there's some message shifting that is always going on there. I think that when Bush goes along with the Powell side he sort of goes along halfheartedly, like he did with the whole Iraq/UN thing. Which is what makes me wonder about the Syria denials. Maybe he's vetoing, and maybe they're going along with the veto, but I'm also sure it's not set in stone and there's got to be a lot of planning going on.
